The Westland Sea King HC.4 “Commando” was a specialized troop‑transport variant developed for amphibious warfare and tactical insertion missions.

Originally designed for the Egyptian Air Force, the HC.4 removed the traditional Sea King side floats and incorporated a folding rotor and tail for naval storage.

Throughout its service life, the HC.4 was upgraded with:

• Radar‑warning systems
• Infrared jamming devices
• M130/M147 flare dispensers

With a 28‑troop capacity and the ability to lift underslung loads up to 2.5 tonnes, the HC.4 became a vital asset in operations across the Falklands, Balkans, Gulf, Lebanon, and Afghanistan, performing troop transport, casualty evacuation, and refugee extraction. It remained in UK service until March 2016.
